Parallax Review

•Overview: Parallax is a retro-style arcade shooter, and it is absolutely my favourite in its kind. Use four different control methods to move your spaceship around the screen, avoiding or shooting down Aliens, collecting powerups, as they come your way.

•Gameplay: The speed of the lasers you shoot increases the longer you survive and so does the number of, intensity of, and speed of the aliens! This makes the game extremely fun and challenging. You start the game with 100% health, which decreases as you take hits from or crash into the aliens, if you crash even once, the pace slows down, and your speed, your laser’s speed, and the aliens slow down to what they were when you started the game. There are many powerups and things you might wanna collect such as, health, A supernove that blasts all aliens on-screen, and more. There are a few types of aliens, each moving in a different way, attacking you in different ways. Your score multiplyer increases as you take down aliens without getting hit, and if you do get hit, the mulitplyer resets to x1.0. The lasers shoot automatically, and you have to be careful not to waste a shot on nothing but empty space, keep on shooting aliens, as doing this decreases your score. Once you crash, you are given a rating on the game you played, based on your score and how long you survived. At this time, you can also share your score via Twitter and Facebook!

•Controls: There are four methods of controlling your spaceship, 1)Touch: Touch your spaceship and move your finger around the screen to move your spaceship 2)Joystick: A virtual Joystick appears that can be used to move the spaceship around the screen. 3)Relative Touch: Touch anywhere on the screen and move your finger, this will relatively move the spaceship in the same way. 4)Tilt: When you select this control method, you get to calibrate it too. Just tilt your iDevice in the direction you want your spaceship to move. The spaceship shoots lasers automatically.

•Graphics: This game delivers an awesome Retro-stlye gaming experience with various colours. It also does support the retina display.

•Sound: This game has a fun Background track that reminds me of the arcade games i used to play when i was little. Also the low pitched sound you hear when shooting down aliens is great!

•Cost: This game costs only $0.99 ! Which is actually cheap for what the game provides!

•Longevity: Since this game is a never ending survival shooter, its longevity depends on your skill and taste for a challenge, as you try to make the top ten.

•Conclusion: Having said all this, some of you might think that this game is too complicated to be a ‘Classic Retro-Shooter’ but believe me, this game is many things, but its not complicated, its simply the best Retro-style shooter out there! Also, this game supports Game Center and Openfeint, which makes playing the game much more fun as you try to top the leaderboards! The company (Canupa) releases updates frequently, making the game better for you, each time.

*****I give this game a 5/5 rating for being the best and my favourite Retro-Style Shooter!*****
